Can General Chargers Be Used To Charge Lithium Batteries?

Q:Can General Chargers Be Used To Charge Lithium Batteries?

A:General chargers cannot charge lithium batteries, use a special charger that matches to the lithium battery charging curve so as not to damage the battery.

Reasons: general battery chargers are generally set to two-stage or three-stage charging mode. The voltage levels of ordinary batteries and lead-acid batteries do not match.

However, there are many kinds of lithium batteries, and the battery performance and battery protection board parameters may be different. Therefore, lithium batteries do not use general battery chargers.

In order to protect lithium batteries, we need to use a special charger that designed for lithium battery.

The voltage and current of general chargers is too high , which cannot meet the charging conditions of lithium batteries.

The charging termination voltage of an 11V lithium battery should be 12.5V, and the charging current range is 0.1 to 1.5 times the capacity of the lithium battery.

In order to extend the battery life, 0.1 times is generally good, and 0.5 times can be used for fast charging.

Lithium battery charging control is to charge according to constant current first. Then when the battery voltage rises to 4.2V, the voltage stops rising.

The charger tests the current, if the current is less than a certain amp, the charging ends.

Lithium batteries are sensitive to overcharging, so the protection circuit is complex.
The max charging rated voltage for single nominal 3.6V battery is 4.2V, and the upper limit of the allowable error is not greater than 1%.

Chargers with the same specifications will not damage the battery, but if the specifications are different, such as the voltage or power is too high, it is likely to damage the lithium battery.

The steps to use our professional lithium battery charger are very simple. Just follow the general battery charger plug-in and check the power instructions.

When charging, the voltage and current of the lithium battery must match the ampere-hour capacity of the lithium battery; in addition, the charger has a charging protection function to guard against overcharge, failure, CAN2.0 protocol, etc.
